According to RezaulKarimAnsari, chairman of the Bangladesh leather goods and footwear export association, the financial crisis will lead to the closure of some leather industry enterprises, resulting in a backlog of $350 million worth of leather in the warehouse. Exports in the second half of 2008 decreased by US $50 million.

He believes that this is mainly due to the decrease in demand in Europe and America.

In addition, he also pointed out that although they have discussed with the Ministry of Commerce many times, the government has not issued any incentive measures to help the leather industry solve the export problems, and other countries around have promulgated specific measures to stimulate and encourage the development of leather industry.
