Furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau began to use RFID system to reduce.

Genuine leather

The time spent in the process of receiving the interior trim material and the probability of error are stored in the warehouse and the three party warehouse.

PoltronaFrau mainly produces high quality leather products for 3 types of customers (housing, interior furniture, custom furniture).

Residential products include sofa, chair, table, etc. the car products include car, aircraft, yacht leather seats, and custom furniture is the leather products made by the auditorium, theatre, leisure club, museums, hotels, resorts and other companies.

The supplier of the company needs to customize leather materials for the company and pport it to the manufacturing plant in Toronto Dino, Italy.

Every year, the company consumes 300000 different sizes, colors and types of leather materials.

PoltronaFrau always stores all kinds of leather in the factory.

The company will start production after receiving the order to ensure that the leather on each furniture can match perfectly.

The production of each furniture lasts for several weeks, so the delivery time of PoltronaFrau is 4 weeks.

If the company does not have a specific type of leather material, the company needs to purchase urgently from the supplier. The production process of leather will last for 6 weeks, which will result in the delay in arrival.

Therefore, the company needs to ensure that there is no shortage of leather in stock.

Before installing the RFID system, when the new material is received, the employees need to manually check the material type on the pallet and input the data into the ERP system of the company.

When a company needs leather, employees need to find out from warehouse and update data on ERP.

Because of the long time consuming, the company only makes 2 stocktaking per year.

PoltronaFrau also needs to send staff to check out the third party warehouse nearby.

Usually, companies need 7 employees to spend 10 days a year in stocktaking.

This process is not only time-consuming but also prone to error.

This year, the company began deploying the RFID system provided by Aton.

DenisaZara, manager of Aton, said that Aton also provided process analysis, software development, hardware integration and after sales support.

Zara said: "process complexity is the biggest challenge.

We should not only consider the process and system of PoltronaFrau, but also consider tanneries. "

To develop this scheme, Aton uses heuristic rather than traditional algorithms.

Zara said that confirming the best placement of labels (to better adapt to leather cutting technology) is another challenge.

PoltronaFrau initially used RFID solutions on residential products.

This summer, the company first used the RFID label on the leather of 3 suppliers.

The label is attached to the inner edge of leather, which will reduce leather damage and will not appear on furniture (leather edges will be cut).

Suppliers need to use their own software to import leather related information: ID, item coding, color, batch number and production time.

These data will be bound to the RFID tag.

Then, the supplier will send this information to PoltronaFrau in the form of early delivery notice.

After receiving this notice, Aton's RFID software will store other information such as tag ID number and so on PoltronaFrau.

When leather arrives at the warehouse, the employees do not need to check manually. They only need to read with MC9190-Z handheld reader. These data will be uploaded to the ERP software automatically, and the status will be updated to be received.

When the reader finds that the item is missing or receives other materials, the Aton software will also issue a warning.

Using RFID technology, each pallet can only take 15 minutes to receive goods.

When the factory needs special leather production, the employee only needs to take the reader to look for it.

If the label is unable to read, the employee can also manually scan the bar code printed on the RFID label.

Due to the fact that the technology has not been used for a complete inventory check, the company can not give specific time.

The company expects that it will take only 1 to 2 employees for 1 days to use the system.

In this way, the company can carry out inventory check more regularly to ensure the accuracy of inventory, thereby preventing the shortage.

The company said it will mark all residential product materials by the end of this year.

Next year, the program will be used for vehicle products.

Boselli said the system could also be tracked in other furniture materials, such as wood.
