Cotton producers in the western part of Bahia, Brazil, began to sow cotton for 2024/25 today. Cotton planting in the southwest of the state took the lead on November 1. After the cotton harvest in 2023/24, the state will implement a cotton window period to eliminate residual crops and weeds, while also contributing to soil restoration.

In the previous year, the cotton planting area in Bahia was 345431 hectares, with an output of 691400 tons. Among them, 247609 hectares (71.68%) are dry land cotton and 97821 hectares (28%) are irrigated cotton.

According to data from the Bahia Cotton Producers Association (Abapa), the average yield is 325.45 Arava (Spanish weight unit) seed cotton per hectare, and the lint yield per hectare is 2001 kg.

The expectation of the new harvest is positive. The president of Abapa, Luiz Carlos Bergamaschi, stressed that "the rainfall this year is within the normal range, which is the decisive factor for a good harvest. Considering the low cotton price in the market, it is crucial to achieve good productivity. In this case, favorable weather is very critical to ensure the profits of producers. The efforts of producers are also a factor that affects the quality of cotton.

The producers in Bahia have made continuous investment in technology, research and sustainable practice, demonstrating a high level of professionalism. This commitment is critical to providing high-quality cotton that meets the needs of domestic and international markets. So far, this effort, together with the favorable climate, has brought us hope for a bumper harvest. "

As for the cotton planting area in 2024/25, the market still has growth expectations, but the exact number will be determined according to the planting progress.
